Just Can't Wait to Be King!

Emma had her final big show for ballet and tap class. The theme this year was "Jungle" and the kids danced to songs from The Lion King. All of the girls looked so cute in their jungle outfits and did so well. It was a great end to her year of dance class!

A Star is Born

Emma has been very busy with performing these past few weeks. Her school had it's annual "Spring Sing" where each class preforms a special song and dance on stage. Emma's class sang "Milton the Mouse." It was SO cute to see all of her little friends singing and dancing on stage. Emma did so well and was just precious in her mouse ears.

Her dance class has been gearing up for their big show and they have been practicing hard. She's been doing so well in dance and I'm so proud of how much she's grown in dance this year. It has really helped her confidence and she's made such good friends in class. It is so fun to watch them, but let me tell you, her teachers deserve a medal!

Emma's First Dance Recital

Emma started taking dance last summer and has really loved it! She takes classes at The Little Gym and her class is a combination of tap, ballet, and gymnastics. She's not a big fan of the gymnastics, but she still has fun with her friends and teachers.

This weekend, she had her first recital and I was so excited to see her perform. She's one of the youngest in the class and I was impressed with how well she was able to keep up. When she first started, I wasn't sure if she had the attention span to learn the dances, but she has really impressed me with how much she has learned.

A Week in the Life - Wednesday

If you've missed the first two days, be sure to start with Monday's post. If you want to see what we were doing this time last year, you can go here.

We had another early start this morning. Sophia woke up at 6:15, which was actually good because Andy overslept. Thank goodness for built-in alarm clocks! The girls and I watched cartoons and then had some breakfast. Sophia wants to do what everyone else is doing at the table and has been doing really well using her utensils. Emma takes her role of big sister very seriously and uses every opportunity to "teach" Sophia how to do things. She made Sophia watch each bite she took.

After breakfast, the girls and I got dressed and cleaned up the house a bit to get ready for our play date. The girls did their best to help me by taking every single toy out of the toy box. I guess they were doing quality checks. :) We played in the tent, played tag, danced, had a snack, and read some books. Emma loves to read books she knows by heart to Sophia. Seeing them together like this just makes me so happy!

Isn't this picture a scream? I didn't even notice she was doing this!
Our friend Jennifer and her sweet little boy, Graydon, came over to play with us. The girls were immediately all over him and the poor guy didn't have a chance to get settled.  Once he found out we had cats and a basketball hoop, he was good to go!

After tour guests left, the girls were ready for lunch. They were starving after all the fun they had and I didn't hear a peep from them while they ate. Once they had their fill, they were pretty wound up, so I turned on Bambi and we all snuggled up on the couch together to watch while it rained outside. It was so peaceful and before I knew it, Sophia was slowly falling asleep. I took both girls upstairs and put Sophia straight to bed. I read Emma a story and told her that today needed to be a nap day because she has dance on Wednesdays. She didn't really put up a fuss, so I knew she must have been tired.  It was dark outside because of the rain and I ended up taking a nap too. I love napping in the rain.

Sophia woke up first and had a snack while we waited for Andy to get home. Emma woke up at the same time that Andy walked through the door. She came down to have a snack too and then I got both girls ready for Little Gym. Sophia's class is at 5:30 so she and Andy left shortly after.  Emma made herself (with lots of help) a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to eat before we had to leave at six. That one little sandwich took her 45 minutes to eat. She is such a slow eater. There's a reason she's so tiny!

Both girls had fun at gym. Sophia's class focused on sharing and playing with others. Perfect! Emma's class focused on heel digs, pirouettes, and plies in dance, and donkey kicks and the balance beam in gymnastics.

This picture makes me LAUGH!

Emma was hungry after dance so we stopped to get some food and then came home to give her a bath and get her ready for bed. Sophia had already had her bath and was waiting for us when we got home at 8:00. Both girls get to stay up "late" on gym days. We worked fast and got both girls in bed by 8:30. Andy and I have our bedtime system down to a science. While he helped Emma brush her teeth and dry her hair, I got the girls' clothes ready for tomorrow. That's always such a huge help for me in the morning. School mornings are always so hectic.

I am going to enjoy the rest of my night reading the new magazines that came in the mail while drinking my cherry limeade. It was another great day!

No Sleeping and Surfing

It's a sad day at our house. We are officially saying goodbye to routine naps for Emma. She'll still nap maybe once a week or so, but it was becoming such a battle to get her to sleep, which led to major frustration for the both of us.

This week I decided to try something new. She must lay in bed for about 20 minutes. If she falls asleep, GREAT! If not, I softly knock on her door to give her the ok to get up and play with her "quiet box." I put together a box with random quiet objects that she doesn't get to play with all the time--stuff that Sophia can't play with.  She knows that she can't be loud, come out of her room, or play with anything else not in the box. So far it's working out great, but I'm waiting for the inevitable testing of limits.

My biggest worry about giving up naps was that she was going to be super cranky and tired, but she's happier now that she's not being forced to nap. We'll see how it goes once the "new" wears off.

Both girls had Little Gym today and it was my day to be with Emma at dance. I miss being with her in the parent and child classes, but it's fun to see how independent she's becoming. She's usually so timid and I love seeing her blossom and be adventurous.

During the gymnastics portion of her dance class, the girls had a chance to "surf" on the wheel. It looked like so much fun and Emma couldn't wait to do it over and over again!

Water Fun and Dance

We had such a fun, but busy, day! We met up with our friends Amber and Matthew at the splash pad for the first time this summer.  One more item to check off our summer bucket list, although I'm sure there will be plenty more visits!

It was a little cool, but the girls still had a good time. It took Sophia a little bit of coaxing before she would go in, but once she realized that she could fill up her bucket, she was good to go. Emma kept herself busy filling smaller buckets that she then transferred into larger buckets. She was covered with goosebumps, but she didn't want to leave. She took a few breaks to warm up and was right back at it.

Sweet friends
After the girls took their naps, the most hectic part of the day began. Both girls have Little Gym on Wednesdays and their classes are back to back. Andy took Sophia to her class while I fed Emma dinner and got her ready for dance. While Emma was at her class, Andy brought Sophia home, fed her dinner and got her ready for bed.

This was Sophia's first experience and we were a little worried about how she'd do. Emma and I got to the gym a little early so we were able to catch the last few minutes of her class. She looked like she was having a ball! Andy said she was a little rambunctious, but oh well. It's gym!
She was so surprised to see Mommy and her big sister!

Emma had her first dance class and she was SO excited! Her class was broken up into two groups; one three year old class and one 4-5 year old class. Emma and one other little girl were the only three year olds, so they got lots of attention. Emma's group started out with dance where they did tap and ballet, and then moved to gymnastics. Emma had been waiting to wear her tap shoes all day and couldn't wait to get started. She did a great job and I was so proud of her! Sorry about the quality of the pictures. I was using my little point and shoot through the window.

I LOVE this picture!
