Two Down...

It's been a rough week. On Monday evening, I felt the beginnings of a sore throat coming on and after hearing the tales of the illnesses plaguing half of our student body, I was worried. I headed into the doctor the next day, and luckily, found out that it was just my old friend Upper Respiratory Infection. URI and I have had an on again, off again relationship during this entire pregnancy. I never seem to truly get over it because there isn't anything I can do. Rest and fluids. Rest? What is that? However, I was relieved that it wasn't strep throat or anything highly contagious.

Fast forward to Friday. 1 a.m. I woke up, as is my habit these days, and couldn't open my eye. I made my way into the bathroom where I saw that my eye was covered with some weird goop. You guessed it...pinkeye. I've never had this annoying little infection, but am well acquainted with it since I work among walking germs. Back to the doctor where I got the horrendous news that I would have to throw away my makeup and contact lenses and start anew. Aw man!

When I got home from the doctor, I saw Children's Tylenol and heard the dreaded words "She has a slight fever." NOOOO! Let me just say this; you know you are a mother when you are nine months pregnant, sick, have pinkeye, and would gladly be injected with whatever microbes are currently invading your child's body and would have said disease for one month if that meant that your child would not have it for even a day.

So here we are...Emma has a fever, stuffy nose, and an occasional cough. I have two eyes (That's right. Two.) the color of Piglet, a stuffy nose, and a constant cough. Poor Andy is desperately drinking Emergen-C like he's an addict while trying to take care of two sick girls. He has taken to sleeping on the couch for many reasons: He wants to stay away from his germy wife so that he has a fighting chance of staying healthy, my nighttime coughing keeps him up all night, and he can get up to take care of Emma without disturbing the few hours of sleep I get each night. He definitely needs prayers. And a vacation.

Lullabies

The three of us are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Sophia. Emma is so excited to have a "baby," but I think she's picturing another baby doll. Every night, Emma puts her babies to bed, gives them a kiss and covers them up for the night. She also loves to sing them lullabies and decided that she would sing to her sister tonight. She's so precious.

It's a Dirty Job

I'll say it again; our little girl is growing up so fast! Every day, she surprises us with a new word or talent that, more often than not, has us cracking up. She is full of personality and she makes "the norm" so entertaining. Dinnertime is always a favorite time of day (when she's happy). When Andy and I were growing up, dinnertime was a sacred ritual where our families could talk, laugh, and discuss the day's events. We both knew that this was a tradition that we wanted to carry on with our own children, even though it sadly seems to be lacking in so many families nowadays. Emma usually dominates the conversation at the dinner table, but of course, we don't mind a bit!

Here's a little glimpse of the Emma that we experience while we enjoy a meal together. I will warn you; this is a bit long, but if you are an Emma fan, it's worth it! :)

Bumpin' Up and Down in My Little BLUE Wagon

That is one of Emma's favorite songs from Baby Bookworms and even though the song is about a red wagon, we changed it to blue and sang it while we rode. Today was the first day that it wasn't rainy or freezing since Christmas, so we took the wagon out for it's maiden voyage. Even though it was still cold, the sun was out and Emma had a fantastic time. "Baby" joined her in the wagon while Daddy pulled and Mommy snapped pictures.

Bumpin' up and down in my little blue wagon,

Bumpin' up and down in my little blue wagon,

Bumpin' up and down in my little blue wagon,

Won't you be my darlin'?
