Nursery News

Well, we made our first big purchase today. We bought Emma's crib and dresser/changing table. The set also comes with an armoire, but we figured we can hold out on that for awhile. The crib is convertible, so it will transition to a toddler bed and full size bed. We also purchased the guard rails. I can't wait to see it all set up in her room!

Thank Heaven for Little Girls

We can finally call the baby by her name: Emma Elizabeth. The middle name is after Andy's grandmother. The doctor said everything looks great, except that my placenta is anterior and low, which means it's covering the birth canal. She thinks it will raise, but if not, I will need to have a cesarean. The good news is that I get to go back in for another ultrasound in eight weeks to see if the placenta has raised and catch another glimpse of my sweet little girl. As you can see from the pictures, she is not shy about hiding her "special places," which makes Andy extremely nervous! :)

Fantasy of Trees

On Thanksgiving, my family and I went to the Fantasy of Trees, a local fundraiser for Children's Hospital. You can see that Peanut also wanted to be in the family picture. Only two days left until we know if it's a boy or a girl!

Finally!

I finally felt the baby move! I think that I have felt it before, but just didn't know it. I started feeling it last night as I was laying in bed, trying to fall asleep. I felt more movement this morning around 4 a.m. Apparently, the baby doesn't know what bedtime is yet. Now that I know what it feels like, I feel movement all the time. I guess my doctor was right; I do have a very active baby. It is a big relief to know that there's actually someone in there!

My Little Acrobat

I had a check-up this afternoon and everything went really well. Except that I wasn't able to listen to my baby's heartbeat for as long as I wanted to (but then, I could listen to it all day). The Dr. had a hard time finding the baby (Peanut was hanging out pretty low), and as soon as you heard a bit of that "Wow, wow, wow" heartbeat, it was quickly followed by a "SWOOSH!" This happened a few times and then the Dr. begin to laugh. I asked her was was happening and she explained that the "SWOOSH!" I heard was the baby moving around from one place to another. She was laughing because Peanut was playing hide-and-seek with her. Every time she found the baby, he/she would take off. I'm not sure if womb behavior mimics the behavior of the child, but if so, I better get my running shoes on! Interestingly, I haven't felt any movement yet, but she said that was perfectly normal. I can't wait until December 1st when we hopefully find out the sex of the baby! Stay tuned...

14 Week Appointment

I am officially at the start of my second trimester, and I had my second appointment yesterday. Luckily, this one wasn't as long as the first one. She just checked my vitals and listened to the heartbeat which she said sounded great! I am going back in three weeks for another checkup and we have our second ultrasound scheduled for December 1st. That's when we will find out the sex of the baby. My dad is hoping for a girl, but I'm a little afraid of a "mini me." :)

9 Week Photo, 13 Weeks Along

Here is a picture of the ultrasound at 9 weeks. Although Peanut looks more like a snowman than anything, hearing that little heartbeat for the first time sure did take my breath away. I'm still feeling great and, other than fatigue, haven't had any other major symptoms. Everyday after work I come home, want to eat the entire house, and take a nap. Not a bad life actually!
