We're Here!

We finally made it to Minnesota! Andy's family is all meeting in Minneapolis to celebrate his grandfather's 85th birthday. We have been planning this trip for about a year and I have been nervously awaiting this trip for the same amount of time. The thought of driving 15 hours with a 15 month old was a little nerve-racking. We broke the trip up into two days worth of driving; 10 hours the first day and 5 the next. However, 10 hours quickly became 14 hours once we added in the frequent stops we made for food and to stretch our legs.

Driving through endless cornfields in the middle of the night is enough to make anybody crazy, but add in a toddler and you just doubled the "fun." Honestly, Emma did better than I had anticipated. Although she got antsy and bored, she didn't fuss too badly. She kept busy with videos, books, toys, songs, and occasional visits from Mommy. She made friends at all of the rest stops, which included two twin collie puppies. However, when we finally got to our hotel on the first night, she thought it was time to be up and explore even though Mommy and Daddy were exhausted and ready for bed.

Today we drove the "short" distance from Beloit, WI to Chanhassen, MN. Lucky for us, Emma slept for three hours of the five hour drive. When we finally arrived at our hotel, we were greeted with rain, wind, and funnel clouds. Other guests reported that the storm sirens had been going off just prior to our arrival. I had never experienced a midwest summer storm before and suffice to say, I'm ok with not experiencing one again. Luckily, all warnings ended an hour ago and we are safe and sound and left with beautiful temperatures for the rest of the week (mid-eighties and low humidity!)

Here are a few pictures from the trip:

We have seen some beautiful places along the way

Finally at our hotel and able to run at top speed!
