Shake, Rattle, and Roll

 Our friends, the Hearons, took a trip to Germany and brought back some goodies for Emma.  One of the gifts they brought back were a pair of ladybug rassel-sockchen (rattle socks).  I've tried them on Emma before, but she hasn't really understood that she's the one that causes the socks to rattle and could care less that she had cute little ladybugs on her feet.  Today, the lightbulb went off and once she realized how to make noise, there was no stopping her.  She kicked up a storm for about 30 minutes, having a blast.  For those that don't know, 30 minutes in baby world= 2 hours adult time, so this was MAJOR fun.  Look at her go!

Gym Time

Emma still doesn't like her tummy time, but she loves playing in her gym.  It's filled with rattles, and other noise-making toys.  Lately, in addition to kicking and swinging at the hanging toys, she has started talking to the characters that are printed on the sides of the gym.  Here's a few pictures of her playing and a video of her conversation with a snail.

"Sibling" Rivalry

As you may know, we have two cats.  One cat is Sophie, who is two and is an outside cat.  The other cat is Sasha.  I got Sasha when she was four weeks old twelve years ago.  She's sweet, gentle, and a great cat.  We never worried about her reaction to Emma, and so far, our predictions have been correct.  She mostly stays away from Emma - her crying and flailing arms scare her.  She even  stays away from all of Emma's things (and trust me, Emma has a lot of things!).  Until now.  Admittedly, we have neglected Sasha since Emma was born.  A demanding newborn is much more of a priority.  And I think Sasha got tired of Emma having all the attention and fun toys because this is where we found her yesterday:

I can almost hear her saying, "Well, that kid can't have everything!"

The Hokey Pokey

The Hokey Pokey is one of Emma's favorite games.  She loves the arm movements the most.

Flying Lessons

Emma turned her tummy time into a flying lesson yesterday.  It is usually a struggle to get her to spend time on her tummy, so I place a rolled up blanket under her arms to help lift her up a bit.  I was pretty amused when she pushed herself onto the blanket and lifted her legs straight up in the air.  She's so strong- she'll be crawling before I know it! 

Mother's Day and One Month Checkup

I was so excited to celebrate my first Mother's Day this year.  I went out to a great lunch with my mom, Tonia and Kimi.  In the afternoon, we visited Andy's parents.  Emma (and Andy) bought me a beautiful diamond necklace for Mother's Day.  Emma has great taste.  

Today was Emma's one month checkup.  She weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz. and measured 20 1/4 inches.  The doctor said everything looked great and that she was very healthy.  It's hard to believe that she's already a month old.  She's holding her head up really well and is starting to make different noises to "talk" to us.  She knows our voices and will start to smile when she hears us.  She has found her tongue and LOVES to stick it out all the time.  We are looking forward to hearing her first giggle!
