Halfway to One

Dear Sophia,

How can you be sixth months old already? I swear, you were just born yesterday.  Each day when I look at you, my mommy heart aches to know that you’re growing up too so quickly.  You are already so independent and you squirm to get out my arms so that you can get down and play.  You did not stay my cuddly baby for very long!

Sleeping
Just writing this makes me nervous, but here goes.  You have been doing so great!  You sleep for 10 hours a night without waking up.  You started the month waking up and crying out around 3:00 every morning, but you seem to have grown out of that.  You usually fall asleep around 8:30 and sleep until 6:30.  You wake up to eat, play a little bit, and then go down for a short morning nap around 10:00.  You take another, long nap later in the afternoon.  It has been absolute heaven, and I hope that I didn't just jinx myself.

Eating
We started you on solids this month!  You have had rice cereal and oatmeal so far and you tear.it.UP! I can't wait to give you fruits and veggies.  You are a VERY messy eater.  You like to eat your bib in between bites of food, so when you start on veggies, I'm seriously considering bypassing the bib and feeding you in just a diaper. You have also had Mum-Mums (a teething biscuit) in the mesh feeder, which you love.  You completely understand the word and sign for "eat" and start to squeal when you hear or see it. You are still eating every four hours, and sometimes barely make it three hours.

Milestones
Girlfriend...you are ready to GO! You aren't crawling yet, but you sure to try hard! Right now, you get around by scooting backwards until you get to where you want to go and then turn yourself around.  You also roll around the room to get to your toys, your sister, or the cat.

We moved you out of your baby sink tub and into the bigger tub that fits into the bathtub.  You like to sit up and play with your toys.  Speaking of sitting up, you are sitting up on your own pretty well.  You are still unsteady, but you're getting better every day.

Your favorite song is "Car Wash"; every time you hear it, you smile your huge, happy smile and "dance." It is so fun to watch you. You have really started moving around in your jumper.  You run, more than jump, and twist around and around.

What I Want to Remember
Your sweet smile still melts my heart.  You have also started sticking your tongue out when you smile if you think something is really funny.  You are such a character.  You and Emma have really started playing together this month and seeing the two of you together is just the most incredible feeling.  You love to be included in everything we do and you now join us for dinner in the highchair and snack on a Mum-Mum while we eat, instead of your bouncy seat. I love having the whole family around the table.

You are obsessed with your feet.  You love to play with them and put them in your mouth every chance you get. You are becoming a Daddy's girl and you reach your arms out for him when you see him, which I know makes him so happy. Your temper is CrAzY!!! If you drop your toy, you will flip in a matter of seconds until you get it back.  It's pretty scary funny to see how mad you can get.  Even though you have a short fuse, you are still such a sweet girl.  I love the way you reach out and grab my face (pulling out half of my hair as well).  I love when you pull me toward you to give me "kisses."  I love how you like to hold my hand when I'm feeding you and when you're playing, just to check if I'm still there.

I am so blessed to have been able to watch you grow and spend each day with you.  Although I'm so sad to be leaving you and your sister to go back to work, knowing that I can come home to your sweet smile makes it all better.  I love you so much baby girl!

Love,
Mommy
